2026 Coast to Coast Tour – Museum Special

Nesquehoning to Pittston, Pennsylvania - Sunday June 14

Celebrate Flag Day and the 250th birthday of the United States with the Union Pacific Museum on Sunday, June 14, 2026, as we explore an iconic piece of the Lehigh Valley Railway’s historic route through the Poconos Mountains and Lehigh River Valley.

We are travelling behind the iconic “Big Boy,” UP 4014 as it returns to the Eastern United States for the first time since its construction in 1941. Highlights include traversing the Rockport and White Haven Tunnels and the scenic Leigh River Gorge. This route originally connected the anthracite coal regions of eastern Pennsylvania with the broader U.S. railroad network.

Big Boy No. 4014 was delivered to Union Pacific in December 1941. The locomotive was retired in December 1961, having traveled 1,031,205 miles in its 20 years in service.  Union Pacific reacquired No. 4014 from the RailGiants Museum in Pomona, California, in 2013, and relocated it back to Cheyenne to begin a multi-year restoration process. It returned to service in May 2019 to celebrate the 150th Anniversary of the Transcontinental Railroad's Completion

This excursion is the annual gala fundraiser for the Union Pacific Museum, a 501 c 3 organization.  This is a rare opportunity for the public to travel behind this historic locomotive and on this historic heritage equipment.

Tickets for the excursion will go on sale to the public on May 4, 2026.  Museum patrons have early access using a special link and code.
Passengers must be 18 years or older to ride. If you arrive with a passenger under the age of 18, your party will not be admitted to the train. Tickets are nonrefundable and nontransferable.  Some seats are at tables. You might be seated with other parties you may not know – just like in the era of passenger railroading! Complimentary return bus transportation will be provided to return you to the departure city for your trip. It is your responsibility to board the busses at the communicated time and place.

Boarding and return details will be communicated to you after purchasing a ticket.
