TRAVEL DETAILS

What you need to know before you buy:

  • This is a one-way rail excursion pulled by UP’s Big Boy, No. 4014, from Nesquehoning to Pittston, Pennsylvania, on Sunday, June 14, 2026.
  • Passenger seat assignments are assigned by lottery. If you purchase a group of tickets at the same time, all efforts will be made to seat that group together.
  • No passengers under the age of 18. If you arrive with a child under the age of 18, your party will not be admitted to the train.
  • Strictly no pets or service animals of any type. If you arrive with an animal, your party will not be admitted to the train.
  • There will be wrist bands for car ticket/class assignments; There is no seat swapping.
  • Tickets are both nonrefundable and nontransferable.
  • Train equipment, amenities and itinerary are subject to change.
  • Passengers must comply with all Museum and Union Pacific staff directions. Failure to comply will result in being removed from the property with no refund.
  • Passengers are permitted to take photography and video; however, live streaming of any kind is strictly prohibited. Passengers are also expressly prohibited from sharing any operational information they may hear or observe.
  • Complimentary return bus transportation will be provided to return you to the city of origin. It is your responsibility to board the buses at the communicated time and place.​
​Ticket Sales:
  • Tickets are sold on a first-come, first served basis online only.
  • Patrons of the Union Pacific Museum are given early access to the ticketing site for beginning May 1, 2026, at 9:00 a.m. CDT.
  • Remaining tickets go on sale to the public on May 4, 2026.
  • Payment is made at the time of your reservation via PayPal.
  • Once your online transaction is complete, you will receive a confirmation email and receipt (not valid for travel).
  • Specific boarding information will be emailed by Friday, May 22, 2026 to ticket holders.
  • Tickets will be available for pickup ONLY at the evening reception before your trip date.

Onboard Experience:

Passengers are invited to explore the Union Pacific Experience car display in the Promontory. Through sound, images and technology, rail fans will see how Union Pacific is building America in their communities, connecting the world. Visitors will be immersed in beautiful railroad photography as they walk through the Experience car learning about the investment, hard work and know-how that went into building the transcontinental railroad and that continues across Union Pacific’s system today. Large colorful panels demonstrate Union Pacific’s strategy of safety, service and operational excellence that deliver the goods Americans need every day. A stunning map depicting Union Pacific’s state of the art UP Vision technology showcases the width and breadth of the Union Pacific system and its reach into American communities.


​On display ONLY for America’s 250 in 2026: During our trip unique objects will be on display in the Experience car. From the Union Pacific Collection a rare marble bust of Abraham Lincoln, created by Civil War nurse Sarah Fisher Ames, and from the Walter Scott Family Foundation a rare glimpse into the Louisiana Purchase and how that agreement changed the west and made it possible for Union Pacific to complete the first transcontinental railroad network in 1869.

​​This equipment, much of which was built pre-1940, has limited accessibility. Passengers with mobility impairments are welcome but must be able to leave their mobility device to board the train, use the facilities or to move through the cars. The train is equipped with restrooms and is air conditioned. Some passengers find it cool, others warm, others just right. We recommend bringing layered clothing to accommodate your individual comfort level. Please also wear close-toed, sturdy shoes. Please arrive at the buses prepared for possible varying weather conditions. There will be car hosts/hostesses to assist.

​Please plan for medications or unique dietary needs you might have outside of communicated snack or mealtimes. Passengers are allowed to bring a small personal bag with them onto the train. Water and snacks will be provided on the train.


Situations may also arise where we are delayed. Should the occasional delay occur, thank you in advance for your patience and understanding.  The Museum is not responsible for consequences of delays regardless of cause.

The entire train is non-smoking and non-vaping.
